Ion Generators
- Galactic cosmic rays have been positively correlated to the Earth’s low cloud cover. It is now evident that cosmic ray ionization is linked to lowering nucleation barriers and promoting early charged particle growth into the Aitken range.
- The assumption is made that artificially generated, corona effect ionization should act in much the same way as cosmic ray ionization, with some differences that might make uni-polar corona effect ionization a more powerful catalyser of cloud micro-physical processes and consequently, climate. Hence the artificial ion is a powerful tool to enhance rain formation process.
Properties of Ion Generators
‘Ion Generators’ generates negative ions for artificial rain making. In this, high voltage source, air-blower and antenna are structured in such a fashion that it gives out negative ions. The negative ions, so generated, are repelled by earth’s negative potential. This causes transportation of ions upward. Ultimately when they reach base of the cloud, they lead to formation of Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN). After mixing in the cloud, these ions accelerate the CCN formation process. This process thus helps in condensing water into a bigger drops and make them heavy and then into rain occurrence.
Transverse Wave Generator
For enhancement of the rain, Ion Generators operational plan is discussed above. However, the blocking of clouds is an essential requirement and this is accomplished by ‘Transverse Wave Generator’s.
This system is to be operated during cloudy sky condition, especially during monsoon season. A single system can cover the area from 4 km to 6 km diameter depending on capacity of unit and terrain structure.
